Day 1: Marrakech – Essaouira – Return to Marrakec

The tour begins with a pickup at your riad or hotel around 7:30 AM, so we can make the most of the day. We head west toward the Atlantic coast, passing through vast argan forests—the argan tree is native to this region. Along the way, we’ll stop at an argan oil cooperative to learn about the traditional production process, used in cooking, cosmetics, and natural medicine.

The approximately three-hour drive takes us to Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, which we reach by mid-morning. This historic coastal city, once a Portuguese stronghold, is famous for its medina—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—its seaside ramparts, its fishing port, and its laid-back artistic atmosphere.

You’ll have free time to explore the medina, stroll along the Skala de la Kasbah with its cannons pointing out toward the Atlantic, take a walk around the harbor and the beach, or enjoy a fresh seafood lunch at one of the local restaurants.

In the afternoon, we’ll meet at the agreed-upon time (around 3:30 PM) to begin our return trip to Marrakech. We’re scheduled to arrive in the Red City around 6:00 PM, bringing this refreshing getaway to the coast to a close.

What is the Alizée wind? Is it bothersome?

It’s the trade wind that blows almost constantly in Essaouira. In summer, it’s refreshing and pleasant. In winter, it can be stronger, but it’s part of the city’s character. That’s what makes it a world-class destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Bring a light jacket, even if it’s hot in Marrakech.

Is there a beach? Can I go swimming

Yes, there’s a huge beach with fine sand right next to the medina. The water is cool (Atlantic), but you can swim just fine in the summer. Bring your swimsuit if you want to take a dip or just walk around barefoot.

It was the first time my friend and I had traveled to Morocco, and we didn’t know where to start. We got Hassan’s contact information, and from the very beginning he helped us with everything. He picked us up at the airport and took us to our first riad, where we received a very warm and welcoming reception. The next morning we left for the desert with Hassan, who accompanied us throughout the tour, explaining each place and making us feel very comfortable at all times. We visited the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, continued to the Dades Gorges, and ended the day in the desert of Merzouga with a camel ride and a magical night in a Berber camp under the stars. At dawn on the third day, we went on a quad bike excursion in the desert—an experience we highly recommend—and then continued on to Ouarzazate and finally Marrakech. With many meals included and others left to us to enjoy at the places where we stopped, it was one of the trips where I felt most relaxed, enjoying every moment without a care in the world. Undoubtedly, an unforgettable experience.
