Tour Itinerary: 1-Day Trip to Essaouira
Day 1: Marrakech – Essaouira – Return to Marrakec
The tour begins with a pickup at your riad or hotel around 7:30 AM, so we can make the most of the day. We head west toward the Atlantic coast, passing through vast argan forests—the argan tree is native to this region. Along the way, we’ll stop at an argan oil cooperative to learn about the traditional production process, used in cooking, cosmetics, and natural medicine.
The approximately three-hour drive takes us to Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, which we reach by mid-morning. This historic coastal city, once a Portuguese stronghold, is famous for its medina—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—its seaside ramparts, its fishing port, and its laid-back artistic atmosphere.
You’ll have free time to explore the medina, stroll along the Skala de la Kasbah with its cannons pointing out toward the Atlantic, take a walk around the harbor and the beach, or enjoy a fresh seafood lunch at one of the local restaurants.
In the afternoon, we’ll meet at the agreed-upon time (around 3:30 PM) to begin our return trip to Marrakech. We’re scheduled to arrive in the Red City around 6:00 PM, bringing this refreshing getaway to the coast to a close.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to get to Essaouira from Marrakech?
Aproximadamente 3 horas, incluyendo una parada a mitad de camino. Salimos temprano (sobre las 7:30) para aprovechar al máximo el día y regresamos alrededor de las 18:00. Es un día completo pero muy gratificante.
Is it worth it for just one day?
Absolutely. Essaouira is a small, walkable city. In just a few hours, you can:
-
Explore the medina (a UNESCO World Heritage Site)
-
Climb the Skala ramparts overlooking the Atlantic
-
Take a stroll through the fishing port
-
Eating the freshest fish
-
Relax on the beach
-
Buy local handicrafts (cypress wood, argan, silver)
It’s the perfect contrast to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.
Shall we make a stop along the way?
Yes, we’ll stop at a women-run argan oil cooperative. You’ll see how this prized product is made, from harvesting the fruit to pressing it. You’ll be able to buy directly from the producers, without any middlemen, at fair prices.
Is there a guided tour or free time?
The tour includes free time for you to explore at your own pace. If you’d prefer a guided tour, we can arrange for a local guide in Essaouira (additional fee applies; please inquire). Most travelers prefer the freedom to wander through the blue-and-white streets.
Where do we eat? Is lunch included?
Lunch is not included, but Essaouira is famous for its fresh fish. At the harbor, there are stalls and restaurants where you can choose your fish and have it cooked to order. There are also vegetarian options and restaurants with outdoor seating. Your driver will recommend the best places based on your preferences.
What is the Alizée wind? Is it bothersome?
It’s the trade wind that blows almost constantly in Essaouira. In summer, it’s refreshing and pleasant. In winter, it can be stronger, but it’s part of the city’s character. That’s what makes it a world-class destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Bring a light jacket, even if it’s hot in Marrakech.
Is there a beach? Can I go swimming
Yes, there’s a huge beach with fine sand right next to the medina. The water is cool (Atlantic), but you can swim just fine in the summer. Bring your swimsuit if you want to take a dip or just walk around barefoot.
